Our Sycamore Gap Ceremony Hits the Headlines!

What an amazing day we had on Friday. After a week of tree planting, we were honoured to plant one of only 49 saplings from the famous Sycamore Gap tree, which was illegally felled in 2023. The saplings, rescued by the National Trust, have been planted by organisations around the UK, and we were one of only a very small number of schools to receive one. This was given to us in recognition of the work we’ve done to boost environmental action across Yorkshire, by establishing the Rewilding Schools Award.

On the day, we welcomed visitors from educational and environmental roles across Rotherham. We were also very lucky to entertain both the Mayor of Rotherham and our local MP, Jake Richards. Both gave speeches at the event, as did some of our children. We were also treated to a song from all the children, before the main event of the planting itself.

Very well done everyone – an absolutely fantastic day and one that I’m sure we’ll all remember for a long time to come!
