The Golden Eagles and Snowy Owls had a great time at Weston Park Museum. We spent the day finding out about the life of Djedma’atiuesankh, a young Ancient Egyptian who died around 650BC, and whose mummy is looked after by the museum. As well as investigating Egyptian life through the artefacts in the gallery, we were able to handle and investigate some fascinating replica Ancient Egyptian items, including a sistrum (a musical instrument) and a head rest.
In the afternoon, we sketched and then sculpted gifts for Djedma’atiuesankh. Finally, the day ended with a debate about whether artefacts should be returned to their country of origin. We were all incredibly impressed with the children’s mature contributions to the debate and with their excellent knowledge of the Ancient Egyptians.
