New Topic equals another WOW day for Wrens

Our exciting new topic, The Adventure Trail: Nature’s Hidden Treasures, has begun, and what a wonderful start we’ve had!

We began by working together to create a fantastic mind map, thinking of as many different creatures as we could before beginning our learning journey.

Next, we prepared for our very own “bug adventure”! We discussed what we would need to pack in our backpacks and carefully drew these items onto our backpack templates. There were some brilliant ideas shared.

As part of our discussion, we also talked about how to look after our bodies while exploring:

  • Eating healthy foods
  • Packing a toothbrush
  • Wearing warm clothes or sun-appropriate clothing
  • Using protection (such as hats and sunscreen)
  • Drinking plenty of water

The children showed great enthusiasm and thoughtful ideas. We can’t wait to continue discovering nature’s hidden treasures together!

During our outdoor exploring, the children carefully searched under logs, near bushes and through the grass. We were very excited to discover a variety of tiny creatures in their natural habitats.

The warmer weather has helped bring more mini-beasts out for us to observe, and we are hoping to find even more as spring arrives. We will continue to explore safely and respectfully, remembering to look after the creatures and return them gently to where we found them. Here are some of photos of us having a GREAT time on our bug adventure

Look at some of the mini-beasts we found.

The children were fascinated as we carefully layered soil and sand before gently adding our worms.

We have explained to the children that our wormery is only temporary. We will be keeping the worms for a short time so we can observe them closely, but we will make sure to return them safely back to their natural habitat very soon.
