Chaffinches Visit the Dinnington Community Woodland

Two rangers, Brian and Nick, joined Chaffinches to take them to visit the Dinnington Community Woodland. We have been studying the wildlife in our school grounds and wanted to look further afield to see what lives in three different habitats. We were able to investigate what lives in a pond, the meadow and at the scrape.

First we investigated the pond and we carefully dipped using nets and pots. We found lots of tadpoles in varying stages of development and some sticklebacks.

We then explored the meadow, trying to identify all the flowers that grew there.DSCF8088

We found a very rare Bee Orchid then we finally visited the scrape to see the Lapwings and ducks through binoculars. We had a very interesting afternoon exploring the woodland.
