We are absolutely delighted to share some exciting news with you: Mr Wirth has received a bronze award for Primary Headteacher of the Year from the Pearson National Teaching Awards. Last year, only ten headteachers across the whole country attained this accolade so it is a real achievement – we’re all very proud of him!
The application process was extremely thorough and assessors were clearly impressed with many aspects of Mr Wirth’s work. Of course, his passion for biodiversity and the environment have been recognised, including the ‘Rewilding Schools’ Award which he set up to encourage schools across Yorkshire to rewild areas of their school grounds. The Sycamore Gap ceremony and the work of ‘Team Green’ were also highlighted.
Mr Wirth’s work on our immersive curriculum, with exciting final events was mentioned, as well as his promotion of the Arts throughout school. Furthermore, assessors were clearly impressed with his approach to inclusion, particularly his work with Mrs Bratt and our brilliant team of TAs to set up our Puffins classroom.
We announced the award in today’s assembly. Our Y6s had lots of fun with party poppers and confetti cannons!
I hope you will all join me in congratulating Mr Wirth on a fantastic achievement. He will now have two National Teaching Award bronze badges to wear with pride!
