WOW Day Fun – Spark, Pop, Bang! We Launched Our New Topic in Spectacular Style!

We have had GREAT day today launching our new topic for this half term, which is called “SPARKLE & SHINE: CELEBRATIONS AND NATIIVITY PERFOMANCE”

We started our WOW Day with a bang! We shared our prior knowledge about celebrations and talked about the different events that people celebrate, which we already knew about. We then explored the celebrations taking place this half term, beginning with Bonfire Night. The children enjoyed discussing fireworks, sharing their experiences, and learning more about this colourful celebration. It was a wonderful start to our new topic and helped ignite excitement for the weeks ahead.

We then created our own spectacular firework night skies. Using lots of bright colours, Wrens designed their own dazzling fireworks displays while listening to Firework by Katy Perry. The music inspired the children to be creative and expressive as they painted bursts of colour across their night skies. Their artwork was full of energy, excitement and sparkle, just like the fireworks lighting up the sky on Bonfire Night.

Once their artwork was complete, they discovered a very special surprise, which was that the paint they had been using was actually glow in the dark paint! As the lights went out and our special lights were switched on, the children’s artwork came to life, glowing brightly just like fireworks bursting across the night sky. Their faces lit up with amazement as they discovered their paintings glowed in the dark, creating a truly magical moment in our classroom. The excitement, wonder and joy were wonderful to see. What do you think of our glowing masterpieces?

We then took our learning outside and used the large parachute to create our very own firework display! The children worked together to make the colourful balls and autumn leaves shoot up into the air, just like fireworks bursting across the night sky. There were lots of smiles, laughter and excitement as we watched the colours fly. We also talked about how to stay safe around fireworks, discussing the importance of watching from a safe distance, listening to adults, and following firework safety rules. It was a fun and engaging way to learn about Bonfire Night while keeping safety at the heart of our discussions.

It’s safe to say – we loved our WOW day!
