The Anston Greenlands Big Bash in Aid of War Child

What a talented group of children and what a way end to end a great term! The Golden Eagles and Snowy Owls provided a wonderful evening of entertainment last night, with singing and comedy, our very own rock band and – a first for Anston Greenlands – an amazing magic act! It’s hard to put into words just how fantastic the children were – it really was a fabulous night!

Of course, a great deal of time and effort was spent preparing for the event. Not only did the children rehearse for their performances, they also had plenty of organising to do! A few weeks ago, the children selected one of six enterprise groups to join to prepare for the event. Our talented artists designed and created the thought provoking set for the evening. As well as doing a fantastic job on the night, our compères wrote their own script and organised the programme. Our determined press officers wrote press releases and contacted radio stations and journalists from local newspapers; they also wrote to some of their favourite authors to tell them all about our eBook. The children were delighted when Ali Sparkes emailed and sent a selection of signed books and posters for our raffle. The merchandise group designed and sold customised t-shirts, wrist bands, bookmarks and badges. Our information team were keen to educate people about the important work that War Child does. They put together a stall for the evening, creating a Prezi presentation, as well as giving a speech on stage. The fundraising team also did an amazing job, organising and running a raffle and a chocolate tombola, as well as deciding on the refreshments for the evening and baking hundreds of delicious cookies and muffins. All of this was achieved over just a few Thursday afternoons. What a great team!
