Easter Holidays

Hello Snowy Owls!

I hope you all have a lovely Easter. We’d like you all to have a break from school work; however, I know we have lots of keen readers so I am sure that many of you will find this website interesting:

https://authorfy.com/

A parent or carer will need to sign up but it’s all free. You will recognise several of the authors from our Reading Spine. If nothing else, it is fun to put faces to names and to find out a little more about some of our favourite writers.

Bonjour les enfants!

2020-04-06 16:13:07 jforbes

Let’s practise our counting and colours in French.  Join in and then have a go at playing the game at the end. See if you can teach your grown up and try and catch them out.  Bonne chance!

I am also attaching another song that that we have been learning together at school – the french version of Hokey Cokey.  Apologies in advance adults, it’s one of those songs that sticks and can be quite annoying – haha!

STEM challenges!

Maths

Two children are playing with three balls, one blue, one red and one  green.

They toss up the balls, which run down a slope so that they land in a row of three.

How many different ways could the balls land?

You might like to use the interactivity below to explore the problem.

Grimm & Co free resources

2020-04-02 19:06:39 cfarrimond

Hi everyone,

I have just received this email from Grimm & CO. They are a team of creative, wonderful writers and illustrators who enjoy unleashing children’s passion for writing. Please share with your aspiring little writers.

Regards

Mrs F

Dear Mrs Farrimond,

I wanted to bring your attention to our distance learning provision here at Grimm & Co. We are in the process of launching a range of activities for children and young people while they are at home, during this time.

All of the resources can be found on the Activities tab on our website here and we will of course be posting them on social media platforms.

These sessions range from short-burst weekly exercises to longer writing projects. Alongside these activities, we will provide step-by-step instructions and videos to aid the session. This provision is free for all. We will add activities every week so keep checking in with us.

We would love it if you could pass this on to parents/carers in your community.

Stay safe and kind wishes to you all,

Grimm & Co

Reading challenge!

2020-04-01 17:45:49 jadams

Hi to all Chaffinches.

Time for another reading challenge!

When you’ve read a few pages or a chapter of your book, try and act out a scene (part of what you’ve read) by playing one of the characters in your book.

And/or try to go on a Book Scavenger Hunt.

Archie’s blog

Hi Chaffinches,

I’ve had a very quiet few weeks, conserving my energy after all of my adventures with you.

Today has been the first day that I’ve done something energetic: I took part in Greenlands’ marathon.  I only managed to run 100m, but it helped.

Once I’d finished my run I tried to snooze in Alfie’s bed (see photo), but he just wanted to play.

I am really tired now but looking forward to my tea later – I’m having pizza, which is one of my favourite meals, as you know. I’m then going to read the next chapter in my book, ‘The penguin who wanted to find out.’  I can’t wait to find out what Otto gets up to next!

Tomorrow, we’re going to play Monopoly – I hope to win!

I will write to you all again soon, Chaffinches.  Please keep safe and healthy.

love from Archie 🙂

xx
